Wonderful idea! I did the washcloth size for a gift but I really want placemats now. Guess I have to add another WIP to my knitting basket!

I have a question... why does the pattern call for use of 2 circular needles?
I'm about to modify your pattern to make a small rug for my DD's bedroom. I'm using two strands of double worsted. I made one of the cloth size a bit over a year ago and at the time thought it would be great when we finished her room and now it's finished and needs some rugs... If I'm successful, I'll send you some pics... thanks for the patterns!
